We recently learned to make really simple origami flowers, and decided that we'd like to learn just a little bit more... but still something for beginners! And so we asked Yukako and Sami (our Japanese tutors for the day) what they would recommend... and they just happened to have some of these beautiful blossoms to tempt us, and they assure us that even if you've never tried origami before these paper pretties will be no problem.

Feeling Felty - Saturday 22nd June 11.00am - 2.00pm

What could be more fun than spending a few hours learning the fabulous skill of needle-felting... especially when you learn how to make this cheeky little fellow! Join us as we find out how to use a special felting needle and wool to make a little birdie! Once you've tried needle-felting you'll want to keep on doing it , it's very addictive, so be warned!

Crochet is hot on the high street and everyone is completely hooked! See what all the fuss is about in this beginners workshop where, at your own pace, you will learn the basics of crochet to make either a simple flower corsage finished with buttons and beads or a stylised flower lariat.

THE ART OF THE CUPCAKE! - Date tbc

What more could you ask for? A fun and informal introduction to watercolour painting - and when you've finished your masterpiece you get to eat the cake! If you came to the CRAFT North East Welcome Event you may have seen our resident artist creating the most fabulous pieces of watercolour cupcake art. She assures us that even someone who can't/won't/has never tried to draw/sketch/paint will be able to make something special... and she will show us how! It's got to be worth a try, even if it's just to get your hands on the amazing cupcakes at the end!

Learn how to make your own set of books to take away and keep. Using found and collected papers, this workshop is a fun and creative insight into the wonderful world of book binding.

The whole world seems to have gone Cupcake Crazy and after this workshop you will understand why! Hosted by our resident expert in cupcakey deliciousness, you will discover that creating beautiful and original cupcake art is actually a lot easier than you might think!

Cakepop Masterclass - Sunday 4th August 1.00pm - 3.30pm

In only 150 minutes you'll learn how to shape, dip and decorate the most amazing cakepops and, most importantly, how to stop the little devils from falling off the stick! And at the end of the class you will leave with a dozen beautiful, tasty cakepops.

NOT YOUR GRANNY'S EMBROIDERY - Saturday 10th August 12.00 noon - 3.00pm

If you prefer the simple crafts in life why not sit down and relax while you learn how to hand-embroider an 'oh so cool' Sublime Stitiching design on an item of your choice, including pillowcases, napkins, shopping bags... all of which are provided of course. But we have to warn you, such stylish stitching is terribly addictive and before you know it you'll be embroidering new life into anything and everything!

Even a beginner can make something special and by the end of this workshop you will be able to make a simple stylised flower corsage, which you can embellish with buttons and beads to adorn a hat, a coat, a bag... the possibilities are endless!

BEADING FOR BEGINNERS - Sunday 25th August 12.00 noon - 3.00pm

In this beginners workshop you will choose from a wide selection of glass beads, crystals, pearls, Tibetan silver charms and various items of beadelicious trinketry, and before you know it you will have learned how to make either a fabulous necklace or funky bracelet. Time permitting, you may also be able to make a pair of matching clip-on or pierced earrings too. And we can guarantee that there won't be any in the world quite like yours. How cool is that!
